The Universe's Earliest Stars - Did a Supernova Give Birth to Our Solar System?

A cloud of gas and dust gave birth to the sun and the rest of the solar system some 4.6 billion years ago. Previous studies have suggested that a perturbation to this cloud led to a gravitational collapse that created the sun and a disk of matter surrounding it, where the planets were born.
